SP Jain presents the Women in Leadership event

The role of women in business has evolved from mainly supportive, nurturing roles to professional and leadership roles. They are playing a critical part in driving the innovation and sustainability of organisations. In a current business context, there is a need to go beyond the stereotypes and revisit the challenges and opportunities faced by professional women.

SP Jain successfully hosted the women in leadership event at the Singapore campus on July 15, 2022. There was a live panel discussion on the topic 'How an Executive MBA (EMBA) can empower women.'

The panellist comprised of the following experts:

  • Dr CJ Meadows (i2i- The Innovation and Insights Centre, SP Jain)
  • Dr Bhanu Ranjan (Assistant Dean, Executive MBA, SP Jain)
  • Suet Huay Loh (Founder, Hong Huay Trading Pte. Ltd., SP Jain EMBA Alumni)

The experts spoke about their success stories, the opportunities, the challenges that came on their way and the strategy they took to overcome them.

Dr CJ Meadows shared research-based and data-driven information regarding women in the workplace. She shared that organisations experience a 61% higher revenue growth rate when they designate women's advancement as a top business opportunity and driver of financial performance.

Dr Bhanu Ranjan encouraged all the women participants to take charge and mentioned that negotiating is critical for women. At the same time, she also highlighted that there are several instances where women pay the penalty because of negotiation. "They are more likely to receive feedback that they are "intimidating," "too aggressive," or "bossy," she said.

She further encouraged women to step out of their comfort zones and not be afraid to pursue their dreams. She highlighted that EMBA allows high-calibre professionals from all kinds of industries and professions to come together to pursue their ambition to become global leaders in business – without having to pause their careers.

Suet Huay Loh shared her SP Jain's Executive MBA journey with the participants. She spoke about the curriculum and what to expect from SP Jain’s EMBA program.

The event was attended by aspiring women managers looking to accelerate their careers in leadership roles and women entrepreneurs wanting to acquire management skills and knowledge to grow their respective businesses. The event helped the participants to gain insights into how an Executive MBA could help empower their careers.
