SP Jain Toastmasters Club recently completed its meeting on June 25, 2024. Our Vice President of Education, Bhanu Ranjan, warmly greeted all new members and guests, emphasising the pivotal role of the Pathways program. This session aimed to provide the attendees with essential information and encouragement to embark on this transformative learning experience.

Our VPE invited TM Sivaraj Santhira Segarn, VC5, PI4, to share his journey, where he recounted his inspiring path, highlighting his dedication to becoming an evaluator. Motivated by a shortage of evaluators in various Toastmasters clubs, he mentioned visiting multiple clubs and completing over 300 evaluations.

As Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD), TM Simon Bernie warmly welcomed all attendees. His inclusive introduction set a positive tone, ensuring everyone felt valued and comfortable. Simon provided a clear overview of the evening's agenda, making sure all participants understood the meeting's structure and flow.

Simon then introduced Vice President of Education, Dr Bhanu Ranjan, for the welcome remarks and to introduce the Word of the Day. Dr Bhanu extended a warm welcome and introduced the Word of the Day, “Introspection,” encouraging everyone to include it in their speeches and discussions.

It was followed by the prepared speeches segment which began with TM Rahul Pathani delivering his Ice Breaker speech, evaluated by VPE Bhanu Ranjan. TM Caroline Laporte followed with her prepared speech, evaluated by TM Sivaraj, and Ashish Bansinge delivered a speech evaluated by DTM Niza Khalil. Each speaker brought a unique perspective, enriching the audience's experience. Evaluators provided constructive feedback, highlighting strengths and offering valuable suggestions for improvement.

TM Jeazel Dsouza led the Table Topics session, offering topics aligned with the evening's theme. Five participants engaged in this spontaneous segment to deliver impromptu speeches within the time constraints. The variety and spontaneity of the speeches made this session lively and interactive.

TM Gaurav Pengoria served as the Timer, ensuring speeches were delivered in their allotted time, while TM Indumathi Sivanesan monitored filler words and pauses as the Ah Counter. Their roles contributed to the smooth running of the meeting, providing essential support and feedback to speakers.

TM Eric, serving as General Evaluator, provided detailed feedback on various aspects of the meeting. The Table Topics segment was well matched to the meeting's theme. Eric suggested clarifying the goals and objectives of Table Topics beforehand, as well as providing guidance on how to approach the topics. Speakers were reminded to respond to the topics thoughtfully, including a single story with a takeaway, and to make full use of their allotted time without pausing until signalled by the red light.

Vice President of Membership Jhunilyn L. Ofiana concluded the meeting by summarising key takeaways and thanking participants for their active involvement. She highlighted the contributions of speakers and role players and stressed the importance of continuous learning in public speaking.

The meeting concluded with awards recognising outstanding contributions:

  • Best Speaker: Rahul Pathania, EMBA Batch 25 student
  • Best Table Topic Speaker: Sri Ram Kodithyala, GMBA student
  • Best Evaluator: Dr. Bhanu Ranjan, Asst Dean-EMBA

The event was praised for starting and finishing on time, and participants were praised for their contributions to its success.
