We are thrilled to announce that Dr Gulnara Z. Karimova, Assistant Professor at SP Jain School of Global Management, presented a paper on ‘Visual Rhetoric in Social Media: A Cross-Cultural Analysis of the UAE and the UK Instagram Influencers’ on 8th and 9th October 2018. The paper was presented in Tbilisi, Georgia at the 2nd International Academic Conference on Economics, Business and Social Sciences - "Major Challenges for Modern Society in a Globalised World".

To add to our milestones, Dr Karimova recently published a paper titled ‘The Game of Thrones as a Teaching Tool: Enhancing Engagement and Student Learning Outcomes’. The article has been published in the e-Journal of Business Education and Scholarship of Teaching (e-JBEST), Vol. 12, N 2 - ABDC Ranking: C.

In the article, Dr Karimova presents an approach to illustrate fundamental theories of ethics through the use of the television series ‘Game of Thrones’. Fundamental theories of ethics are illustrated by the situations and decisions made by the TV series characters. A pre-test and post-test of 43 sophomore students was conducted by Dr Karimova to assess the instructional value of this teaching tool. Some of our students were also part of this research. The results obtained from Dr Karimova’s study indicate that the use of ‘Game of Thrones’ to encourage student participation can provide an effective tool to engage discussion on the topics of ethical philosophies such as utilitarianism, pragmatic egoism, existentialism and answerability and help in establishing an understanding of ethics.
